Find true assurance in Christ, not your doubts.

Many sincere Christians have asked, “How do I know if I’m saved?” It is a deeply personal question, and it often comes from a heart that wants to be right with God. The good news is that salvation does not rest on how perfectly you feel, how strongly you perform, or whether you never struggle with doubt. Salvation rests on Jesus Christ—His death, His resurrection, and His promise to save all who come to Him in faith.

Signs of Genuine Faith in Your Daily Life

One sign of genuine faith is trust in Jesus rather than trust in yourself. A truly saved person does not depend on good works, religious habits, or personal morality as the foundation of salvation. Instead, they look to Christ and say, “He is my only hope.” Good works matter, but they are the fruit of salvation, not the cause of it.

Another sign is a growing desire to turn away from sin and toward God. This does not mean you become perfect overnight or never struggle again. It means sin begins to trouble you in a new way, and you care about pleasing the Lord. When you fall, you are drawn to repentance rather than wanting to remain hardened against God.

Genuine faith also shows itself through love—love for God, love for His Word, and love for others. You may not always feel spiritually strong, but over time there will be evidence that God is changing your heart. You may become more humble, more forgiving, more aware of your need for grace, and more willing to obey Christ even when it is difficult.

Finding Peace When Doubts About Salvation Return

Doubts about salvation can return even for committed believers. Sometimes they come during seasons of spiritual dryness, grief, anxiety, temptation, or failure. When doubts come, the answer is not to stare endlessly at your own emotions, but to look again at the promises of God. Jesus said that whoever comes to Him, He will never cast out.

It can help to ask yourself simple, honest questions: Am I trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior? Do I believe He died for my sins and rose again? Do I desire to belong to Him, even if my faith feels weak? Saving faith is not always loud or emotionally intense. Sometimes it is a trembling hand reaching out to a strong Savior.

Peace grows as you return to the gospel again and again. Read Scripture, pray honestly, confess sin, and stay connected to other believers who can encourage you. Your assurance is strengthened not by pretending you never doubt, but by bringing your doubts to God and remembering that His grace is greater than your weakness.

So, how can you know for sure that you are truly saved? Look to Jesus Christ. If you are trusting in Him alone for salvation, if your heart is being drawn toward repentance, and if God is producing even small signs of spiritual life in you, take courage. Your confidence is not in the strength of your grip on God, but in the strength of His grip on you.
